SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Councilman William "Cruz" Shaw announced his resignation from his position on on Thursday.

The resignation, effective January 7, 2019, comes after he accepted an offer to become associate judge of the 436th Judicial District Court.

Shaw said as councilman he wanted to accomplish establishing a level of professionalism in the seat.

"What I want to do, is I want to bring professionalism back to the seat. Our D2 office, and the D2 staff are amazing, they go out to our communities, they do all of the hard work. And that was probably one of the hardest decisions I've had to make because I know we have such a great team, and I don't want to see this team dismembered,” he said.

The City of San Antonio will release the details for filling the District 2 vacancy in the coming days.
