SAN MARCOS, Texas — The final tally for the San Marcos City Council runoff election is in.

  • Joca Marquez wins Place 5 seat
  • Mark Rockeymoore wins Place 4 seat

The two vacant seats on city council will be filled by Joca Marquez and Mark Rockeymoore.

Marquez was the frontrunner for the Place 5 seat from the November election, and remained in the top spot for the runoff receiving around 63 percent of the vote. Her opponent, Rick Henderson, received about 37 percent.

With the addition of Marquez, the city will now have its first female majority elected to San Marcos City Council.

Rockeymoore didn't receive the majority of the votes in November for the Place 4 seat, but managed to take the top spot this time around. He received about 63 percent, against his opponent, Shane Scott who received 37 percent.

San Marcos had a low voter turnout, with just about 3 percent of voters at the polls.

The City of San Marcos is set to canvass the election results on December 19.
