SAN ANTONIO – A security incident at the Fort Sam Houston Base had schools and buses on a one-hour delay Friday morning. 

Joint Base San Antonio-For Sam Houston reported that at around 4 a.m. the base was put on lockdown. A vehicle with two people ran the Schofield gate.

Security Forces personnel pursued the vehicle. The two people abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. One person was detained. The other person was still at large, but the San Antonio Police Department and Security Forces worked together to find the person.

Around 10 a.m., an extensive search concluded and normal operations resumed. SAPD identified the suspect at large. 

Orignally, a security incident was reported around 5:45 a.m. The base was placed on lockdown for nearly two hours, and it was lifted around 8 a.m.

All of the Fort Sam Hood Independent School District schools and buses were delayed.

At 9 a.m., Fort Sam Hood ISD said via Facebook stated the base was locked down again.

 

 

Students who are at school were safe and they began lockdown procedures. Students who were en route to school were returned by buses. All children who were already home are were told to stay there. 
 
Joint Base San Antonio also confirmed the lockdown. 
 
 

Residents of the base were encouraged to report any suspicious activity to officials.
