SAN ANTONIO – SAPD and North Central Baptist Hospital partnered for "Superhero Drop" on Wednesday.

  • 5th Annual event
  • SAPD SWAT and SAFD participated
  • Dedicated in honor of SAPD officer's late son

SWAT officers joined SAFD Rescue Team members and dressed as various superheroes. They rappelled down the side of hospital as children watched through windows. The children also interacted with the superheroes through the glass.  Afterward, the superheroes came inside and interact with the kids.

“It’s a great thing the police and fire department came up with years ago to really brighten days of some children who, unfortunately, on one of the funniest holidays of the year, have to stay in the hospital,” Bill Wachter, president of North Central Baptist Hospital, said.

This is the fifth year for the annual event and is dedicated in honor of Juian Andrade. Andrade was the 5-year-old son of SAPD officer Jose Andrade and was a former patient at the hospital.

He lost his battle with cancer during the spring of 2015.

SAPD officer Doug Greene said Captain America was his favorite hero of the "Superhero Drop."
