SAN ANTONIO – A Somerset Independent School District bus was rear-ended with 35 students on board Tuesday morning, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 7 a.m. the bus was hit on the 20810 block of State Highway 16S. The students were all assessed for injuries by EMS. Up to five students reportedly have non-life threatening injuries.

The driver who crashed into the bus was stuck inside the vehicle and had to be extracted by rescue crews. The driver is a 17-year-old student who was on his way to school. 

Police said the injured students and the driver were transported to the hospital.

All of the northbound lanes of SH 16S are blocked and traffic is backing up in the area.
