SAN ANTONIO – Friday, April 20 marks 19 years since students and teachers were shot and killed at Columbine High School in Colorado.

Thousands of students coast-to-coast will leave class, to honor the victims and protest gun violence.

Friday’s nationwide gun violence protest is the second in one month. The Valentine's Day massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida triggered outrage among students across the country to take action and call for tighter gun control and campus safety.

The San Antonio Independent School District will allow students to walk out in protest as long as they stay on school property.

North East ISD officials say they respect the right of protest, just not in the middle of a school day.

"We aren't going to stop them from walking out of class but there are going to be consequences for that which is an unexcused absence," said NEISD spokesperson Aubrey Chancellor.

Students will start walking out of class beginning at 10 a.m.
