SAN ANTONIO — Niche, an organization that uses data to rate cities, and applies feedback from real people, has released its annual 'Best Places to Live’ reports, ranking the San Antonio area in multiple ways.

For residents of the Alamo City and beyond, may we present to you, the 'Safest Places to Live' list. It takes into account nieghborhoods, cities, towns and suburbs — All data, according to Niche, is scored and standardized so that each place is comparable.

The 'safest' list uses crime statistics to determine ranks.

The list from No. 1 to 10:

  1. Olmos Park
  2. Shavano Park
  3. Castroville
  4. Garden Ridge
  5. Fair Oaks Ranch
  6. Cibolo
  7. Terrell Hills
  8. Bulverde
  9. Helotes
  10. Hollywood Park

The list continues to include other San Antonio areas of interest with reviews submitted by users. Niche also gives grades to public schools and population numbers for each.

The survey breaks down areas even further by into various categories including 'best overall places to live,' ‘best places to buy a home,’ 'best for families' and ‘most diverse':

  • Olmos Park and Alamo Heights ranked No. 1 best place to live based on "crime, public schools, cost of living, job opportunities and local amenities," and again, 1 and 2 for best for families
  • Hollywood Park and Helotes were 1 and 2 for best place to buy a house
  • Converse and Universal City were 1 and 2 for most diverse
