SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Fire Department is helping Santa wrap presents for thousands of local kids.

Saturday, firefighters recruited "elves" at the Fire Academy. Each one wrapped a few toys for kids in need of gifts under the tree.

Toys were generously donated and collected throughout the month at HEB. Organizers said they began delivering the gifts, by the truck load, as early as Saturday night.

"This may be the only toy they get this Christmas, the only present they get. So if you can imagine, toys being delivered to you; you get a Christmas gift but you also have it delivered by firefighters on fire trucks. What a surprise for these kids,” said organizer Bobby Ford.

Due to the number of donations received, organizers say children will receive more gifts than they have in years past.
