BOYD, Texas — As schools around the nation postpone in-person classes, Boyd ISD, located northwest of Fort Worth, is the latest to close its doors due to the pandemic.

Beginning Wednesday Jan. 12, all campuses of Boyd ISD are closed for a COVID-19 deep cleaning protocol. The school district plans to reopen its doors again Jan. 18.

According to the notice given by Boyd ISD Superintendent Tami Vardy, additional instructional minutes have been built into the district’s schedule and students will not have to make up these missed instructional days.

Vardy also reminds parents and students to be cautious during these times and to remain vigilant of the growing number of COVID cases in the community. She adds that if anyone is experiencing symptoms that are not typical for their health to visit a physician. If anyone tests positive for COVID-19, they are asked to contact their campus office or the director of health services.

Meanwhile, southeast of Dallas, it’s the same story at Kemp ISD.

Campuses will be closed Thursday and Friday, remain closed on Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

“While we understand this may cause an inconvenience for families, we are taking this time to mitigate the spread of the COVID virus, by minimizing person-to-person contact and thoroughly disinfecting all district facilities and transportation,” the district wrote in a news release.

Red Oak ISD will be closed Friday, Jan. 14.

Rio Vista ISD will remain closed the rest of the week. Students return on Tuesday Jan. 18.

Kerens ISD has announced its closure as well, from Jan. 13-14. According to Superintendent Martin Brumit, 20% of the school district's staff and students are absent due to COVID or family quarantine.

All after-school class activites are cancelled as well. Classes are expected to resume Tues. Jan. 18.
