SAN MARCOS, Texas – Gov. Greg Abbott announced Wednesday his 40-page School and Firearm Safety Action Plan after meeting with policymakers in a series of roundtable discussions following the May 18 shooting at Santa Fe High School, which killed 10 people and injured 13 others.

A cornerstone of Abbott's plan is the expansion of mental health services for Texas schools. Using a portion of $62 million in newly received federal funding, Abbott wants to see the state expand the Telemedicine Wellness Intervention Triage and Referral, or TWITR, Program.

Greg Hansch is the public policy director for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI Texas. He weighed in on this and other proposals in the Action Plan. Watch his full interview above.
