AUSTIN, Texas — The Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) headquarters, a Virginia-based institution for almost 15 years, is relocating to Austin and restructuring, according to Chron.
TRADOC manages the training of Army personnel and the development of operational doctrine.
Thirty-seven schools and centers, in 27 locations, are run by the command.
This shift is part of a Defense Department initiative to streamline commands across the military branches; however, the Army hasn’t specified a timeline for the Texas command’s activation.
Austin is currently the headquarters of Army Futures Command. The purpose of both commands is to prepare for and recognize future threats.
A memo to top Pentagon officials on April 30 first announced the combining of TRADOC and Army Futures Command.
“I am directing the Secretary of the Army to implement a comprehensive transformation strategy, streamline its force structure, eliminate wasteful spending, reform the acquisition process, modernize inefficient defense contracts, and overcome parochial interests to rebuild our Army, restore the warrior ethos, and reestablish deterrence,” Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said in the memo.
The number of soldiers from Fort Eustis who will be relocated because of the reorganization is yet to be revealed by the Army.
The memo can be found below.
