AUSTIN, Texas — On Tuesday, Austin's newest events venue officially opened its doors, and John Mayer will be the first artist to perform there. 

Located on the University of Texas at Austin's campus, The Moody Center is set to host both UT's men's and women's basketball teams as well as many concerts and other family events year-round. It replaces the Frank C. Erwin Jr. Center 

Matthew McConaughey was in attendance for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and gave a few remarks. The actor will act as the Minister of Culture for the venue, ensuring Longhorn and Austin cultures are accurately represented.

Upcoming shows include:

  • John Mayer on April 20 and 21
  • Bon Jovi on April 23
  • Justin Beiber on April 27
  • George Strait on April 29 and 30 

The Moody Center is a 15,000+ seat venue with the largest event floor in the nation.
