GARLAND, Texas – The Garland Health Department in North Texas has been allowing people to pre-register for the vaccine, and 1,000 of those people are set to get their first vaccine dose on Thursday.

Those who will receive the vaccine were notified by the health department ahead of the vaccination event.

The vaccines will be distributed at Johnson Stadium, but the city is reminding the public it will not accept walk-ups.

If you’re in the Garland area and qualify for the 1A of 1B phases – those include health care workers and people 65 and older or those with underlying medical conditions – you can register for the waitlist by clicking here.

As of now the health department says it is only giving vaccines to those qualifying groups if they’re from Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse, but expects to be able to distribute to people outside those regions once more vaccine doses are available.

Garland is located in Dallas County, an area that has seen positive case numbers at their highest since the beginning of the pandemic.

The county recently opened a new coronavirus testing site in an attempt to help identify and slow the spread of the virus.
