AUSTIN, Texas — All 13 Texas Democrats in the U.S. House support the idea of impeaching President Donald Trump for a second time. Democratic leadership in Congress are calling for the removal of Trump 12 days before his term expires.

"Let's be clear, this is one of the worst attacks in our history. Not in our modern history, in our entire history," Rep. Colin Allred, D-Dallas, said in an interview on Capital Tonight. "The sacking of the U.S. Capitol by supporters of the President who he called on to show up that day, who he then encouraged that day to go to the Capitol, is one of the worst attacks on our democracy and our history and there has to be a response from the Congress."

House Democrats are planning to introduce an impeachment resolution on Monday. The latest draft of the impeachment resolution, obtained by Spectrum News, includes one article of impeachment for "incitement of insurrection."

Wednesday, Trump supporters invaded the U.S. Capitol leaving members of Congress to shelter in place, wear gas masks and barricade doors. Officials say five people died in the attack, including U.S. Capitol police officer Brian Sicknick who died Thursday from injuries sustained during the violence.

"My heart goes out to his family and my family's prayers are with him because I know I would not be with my family tonight if it were not for the bravery of the Capitol police," Allred, who was in the House chamber at the time of the attack, said. "There was clearly a systematic failure that allowed this to happen, a number of mistakes that allowed this to happen, that starts from the very top. But the line officers, who were protecting us from this mob, did everything they could to protect us."

The other Texas Democrats calling for impeachment are Joaquin Castro of San Antonio, Henry Cuellar of Laredo, Lloyd Doggett of Austin, Veronica Escobar of El Paso, Marc Veasey of Fort Worth, Filemon Vela of Brownsville, Lizzie Pannil Fletcher, Al Green, Sheila Jackson Lee and Sylvia Garcia all of Houston, Vicente Gonzalez of McAllen and Eddie Bernice Johnson of Dallas.
