Eric Griffey is a Fort Worth-based digital journalist for Spectrum News. He joined Spectrum in June 2020.

Griffey has received more than a dozen local, state, and national journalism awards. He is especially proud of winning The Houston Press Club’s 2015 Journalist of the Year award for Texas. He’s also a former food critic and won an AAN award in 2019 for food writing.

Griffey considers his most impactful story his piece on a construction project where the builders were planning on unearthing untold amounts of buried chemical waste. In the course of reporting the story, he got to know some of the former employees of a long-defunct chemical plant. Each person had developed cancer and other health issues related to their previous jobs. They were determined to stop the construction out of fear that a new generation of workers would suffer everything they had. When this piece published, he felt as if his work helped to protect the public.

When he isn’t reporting, Griffey is an at-home chef, and he is an enthusiastic food and wine connoisseur. He’s also a self-proclaimed “sports nerd.”

It’s safe to say he’s the go-to-guy for food recommendations in the area.
