LEANDER, Texas – When the Glenn High School basketball players got back from their holiday break, they asked each other what presents they got.

  • One player didn’t get presents over holidays
  • Teammates pulled together to buy some
  • Video of gift exchange went viral

“David said he got nothing. We didn’t know why and it wasn’t our place to ask but we knew we wanted to get him something,” said Glenn basketball player Brandon Albert.

Almost immediately, the team started a group text thread to see if others would be willing to pitch in for a gift. Without hesitation teammates said they would.

“To us family is more than just a word, we’re all brothers here,” said Glenn basketball player Jacob Stacks.

A few guys gathered the money and went to buy the gifts. When the team returned to practice they had the presents wrapped and surprised their teammate, David Kra, with a new pair of shoes and a sweater.

“Definitely very surprising. I wasn’t expecting it obviously,” said Kra. “It’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life, something that’s in my mind forever.”

Teammates describe Kra as being a guy who doesn’t normally show a lot of emotion, but he couldn’t hold back his joy when he received the gifts.

“Seeing him smile and show some emotion, it was a good feeling,” said Stacks.

The Glenn basketball team has signs around the gym with their motto, “Family,” and when they break out of huddles every day they say the word aloud. This act proves that it’s more than just a word for them.

“Shows that we all have each other’s back,” said Kra. “If anybody needs anything we’re all there to support them.”

The team filmed the moment when they presented Kra with the presents and that video went viral on social media with over 500,000 views.
