AUSTIN, Texas — Veterans Day is this Monday.

The holiday falls on November 11 because it is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. It was originally called Armistice Day, but it was changed to Veterans Day in 1954 to account for veterans in all wars.

On Veterans Day people pay respects to those who have served in the military. Below is a list of some of the events happening in the Austin area.

Austin

  • Veterans Day Parade
  • 9:30 a.m.
  • Downtown Austin
  • Parade will proceed up Congress Avenue to the Texas State Capitol. Parade Ends at 11th and Congress Avenue.

Fredericksburg

  • Gov. Abbott to deliver remarks
  • 11 a.m.
  • National Museum of the Pacific War

Georgetown

  • Veterans Day Ceremony
  • 11 a.m.
  • Georgetown-Williamson County Veterans Memorial Plaza, 2 Texas Drive
  • Ceremony includes a dedication to Gold Star families. Guest speaker is Adjutant General of the Texas National Guard, Maj. Gen. Tracy R. Norris.

Lakeway

  • Veterans Day Ceremony
  • 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
  • Lake Travis High School Performing Arts Center
  • The Lakeway Police Department Color Guard will present the colors and the Lake Travis High School Band and Choir will perform patriotic music.

San Marcos

  • Veteran's Day Brunch
