NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — On Friday New Braunfels will turn into a full-out German celebration. Wurstfest starts November 1 and runs until Sunday, November 10. If you’re going to the festival sometime during the next 10 days, here are five things you need to know before you go. 

1 - The gates open Monday through Wednesday at 5 p.m. and entertainment ends at 10 p.m. Thursday and Fridays the gates open at 5 p.m. and entertainment ends at 11 p.m. Saturdays the gates open at 11 a.m. and entertainment ends at midnight. Sundays the gates open at 11 a.m. and entertainment ends at 10 p.m.

2 - Wurstfest has a wanding and bag check at the gates. The fewer items you bring, the quicker you’ll get through the line. Below is a list of prohibited items:

  • Illegal or illicit substances, drugs or drug paraphernalia
  • Weapons (includes knives)
  • Flammable items or liquids including aerosols and fireworks (includes mace)
  • Masks
  • Outside food or beverage including alcohol
  • Balls, frisbees or flying disks
  • Drones or unmanned aerial vehicles
  • Pets
  • Laser pens, laser pointers or similar focused light devices
  • Coolers
  • Professional radios or walkie-talkies
  • Slingshots
  • Bicycles or skateboards
  • Chairs or Stool
  •  Instruments, megaphones, horns or noise makers (all entertainers will be issued wristbands – in order to enter with an instrument or instrument case, one will need to be wearing an official entertainer wristband)

3 - You can buy tickets online until midnight, Thursday, October 31 for $12. After that, general admission tickets will be $15 online and at the gate. Children 12 and under are always free. If you’re pinching your pennies, there are a few nights you can get into Wurstfest for free: 

  • Friday, November 1: 4-7 p.m.
  • Monday, November 4: 5-10 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 5: 5-10 p.m.
  • Wednesday, November 6: 5-10 p.m.
  • Sunday, November 10: 3-10 p.m.

4 - Parking at Wurstfest is adjacent to the festival grounds, but it is limited. If you’re looking for a ride, the Wurst Wagen has a shuttle service from area park and rides, local accommodations, or for group pick-up from private locations for a fee. You can also use a rideshare service, Like Uber or Lyft, or taxi.

5 - If you want to get into the holiday spirit, dirndls, lederhosen and silly hats are encouraged. Anything goes at Wurstfest, but shirts and shoes are required attire.
