AUSTIN, Texas -- Electric car enthusiasts were at the Electric Vehicle Car Show and Expo in Austin to see and learn about the latest vehicle technology.

  • Expo showcased electric car technology
  • Smart Charge America representatives on hand
  • Expo held during National Drive Electric Week

The expo showcased the latest technology in electric cars and experts were on hand to answer any questions including information about charging these cars at home and in public. Representatives from Smart Charge America say there are several benefits to owning electric cars.

"It's just fun to drive. Any electric vehicle, the first thing people see is a smile on their face and they realize this is a lot more fun to drive than the typical vehicle. So there's that. There's also much lower total cost of ownership, so some people say it seems expensive. But when you actually add the cost of fuel, the repair/maintenance cost over time, you're actually paying just about the same or much less compared to a conventionally-fueled vehicle," said Smart Charge America Vice President David Laderberg.

The expo is being held during National Drive Electric Week which helps to heighten awareness of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more.
