AUSTIN, Texas – From Oak Hill to Treaty Oak, it's safe to say people in Austin love their trees.

The capital was the first city in Texas to pass a tree ordinance as a way to protect trees from construction.

That means any construction that may affect trees requires a permit, including construction at residential properties.

On Tuesday, city arborists are holding a workshop to teach residents more about tree permit requirements.

The workshop is free and will not only teach people about the tree ordinances but about how to apply for a tree permit when it’s necessary.

It goes from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the University Hills Library. Children are welcome, and kids’ activities and snacks will be provided.
