  • Hopes to motivate younger generation

“It feels good to be back home,” Mayfield said. “Being able to get around them and interact, I think that’s important for being a role model for these kids.”

Mayfield has a story of overcoming the odds. From being a walk-on at Texas Tech and at Oklahoma, to winning the Heisman Trophy and being the top overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

He can now share that story and motivate some of these youngsters.

“If you looked at me, I wasn’t going to be an NFL player,” says Mayfield. “Set your mind to something and set your goals high.”

Soon Mayfield will head back to Cleveland to begin his second year as the Browns starting quarterback. The team is creating a lot of buzz with Mayfield’s success as a rookie and the addition of Odell Beckham Jr. to the offense.

“Last year when I got there after the draft we had a lot of good pieces and great talent but only excitement was in our building,” Mayfield added. “Now everyone else is taking recognition.”
