MCDADE, Texas — In just their first year of UIL varsity football, McDade High School had a lot of success. A big part of their success was improved facilities.

  • It’s McDade’s first year of UIL varsity football
  • Need to raise $75K for lights
  • Hope to install lights by this fall

They added goalposts, fresh grass, new bleachers and a scoreboard. However, they’re still missing one thing, lights.

“Right now we have to rent a field which is a little hard for our residents to come support our teams,” said McDade ISD Executive Assistant Grant Hennig.

The Bulldogs have to play their home games either during the day or rent a field in Bastrop with lights. To remedy that, they’re asking the community for help. McDade ISD launched a GoFundMe page this week in hopes of raising $75,000 to install lights at the field.

“The school brings the community together,” said Hennig. “Something to do on Thursday or Friday nights to support our kids.”

If they can get the funding secured, McDade could have the lights installed in time for the switch to be flipped on this fall.

“When we turn on that scoreboard and flip those lights the community, people around and everybody going down 290 is going to see that McDade has this wonderful thing going on,” said athletic director Greg Horn.
