AUSTIN, Texas -- Austin police Wednesday morning said a man was left with critical, life-threatening injuries following a stabbing.

About 5 a.m., police responded to the area of East 6th and Brazos streets, directly in front of a Gold’s Gym location and across the street from the Driskill hotel.

There they discovered a man in his 30s with apparent stab wounds. Police do not know what led to the stabbing or if the victim and person responsible are familiar to one another. Police do not believe there is a threat to public safety.

Police briefly closed the southbound lanes of Brazos in order to investigate.

The victim has been taken to a hospital for treatment.
