AUSTIN, Texas — Flash flooding is possible Friday through Saturday across most of South and Central Texas.

  • Potential for large hail and strong winds
  • Ground now primed for flooding
  • LCRA opening more floodgates

Flash flood watches and thunderstorm warnings have been issued for several counties in the area. The flood watch will continue for Travis, Williamson, Hays, Blanco, Burnet, Bastrop, and Caldwell Counties until 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The region is primed for flash flooding following the heavy rain fall over the past few days.

Storms with quarter-sized hail began hitting Kerrville at around 1:22 p.m. Thursday.

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) is opening more flood gates Thursday at dams along the Highland Lakes in anticipation of more heavy rain in Central Texas.

LCRA will open floodgates at Mansfield, Buchanan, and Tom Miller Dams Thursday evening. The utility expects Lake Travis to reach about 685 feet above mean sea level overnight. That is about four feet into the lake’s flood pool.
