AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department released footage of a dramatic water rescue of three people and a dog trapped in flood waters Friday.
- APD releases video of dramatic rescue
- 3 women and dog rescued from vehicle
- Officers worked quickly to get all to safety
The heavy rain trapped the women in a car on Old Bee Cave Road. In the video, you can see three officers using a rope to get two women out of the car as it continued to move in the flood.
As the third woman and the dog were being rescued, the two of them and one of the officers were pulled under the water by the strong current.
Officer Benjamin Cochran entered the water and held onto Matthew Valli as he held onto the third occupant and the dog.
All of them were almost to safety when the woman and the dog were swept into the current, but officers pulled them back.
A minute after everyone was rescued, the car went over the edge of the bridge.
The officers say this is a good reminder to turn around on flooded roads.
