AUSTIN, Texas – Austin police are working to determine how a man died in a North Austin hotel Sunday night.

Police were called to the Quality Inn and Suites, at 7928 Gressner Dr., around 8 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a loud explosion on a floor of the hotel. The caller said he or she also saw several people running through the lobby.

Arriving officers went from room to room where they found a hotel room door open with a subject down. The victim is a 28-year-old black male, whom police said had obvious trauma to his body.

Officers said the man showed no signs of life and Austin/Travis County EMS pronounced him dead at the scene at 8:31 p.m.

Homicide detectives are investigating this as a suspicious death. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Tip Line at 512-477-3588.

The Travis County Medical Examiner is conducting the autopsy to determine the cause of the death.
