AUSTIN, Texas -- The severe weather season has begun!  Are you prepared for the next storm?

We invite you to come to "Project Weather" at Maker Faire Austin on Saturday, May 4, to learn more about how to keep yourself, your family, and your property safe during dangerous weather. 

The event takes place at the Palmer Events Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Attendees will have an opportunity to meet the 24/7 network’s Weather on the 1s team as well as check out these weather-themed exhibits:

·         Spectrum News Chromakey green screen lets you try “doing the weather” for yourself then post it to your social media accounts

·         Girlstart will have hands-on projects for kids to learn some of the science behind our weather

·         Austin Fire Department brings its swift water rescue boat and, for the first time, shows off a brand new wildfire simulator plus demonstrations of its fire drones

·         U.S. Geological Survey will show how they use stream gages and the latest technology to monitor floods

Rain or shine, Spectrum News Chief Meteorologist Burton Fitzsimmons has been reporting on the weather nearly 20 years, keeping viewers informed and prepared during severe weather, flooding, tornadoes and storms in Texas. Led by Fitzsimmons, Spectrum’s team consists of Meteorologists Emily Borchard, Adam Krueger, Dan Robertson, Kelly Slifka, Adrienne Veilleux, and Mary Wasson.
