AUSTIN, Texas – Religious advocates are taking their fight to the State Capitol on Wednesday to tout their support for Chick-fil-A.

  • Religious advocates calling for Chick-fil-A support
  • Giving testimony at the State Capitol
  • Claiming discrimination based on their religion

The group Texas Values, and pastors from around the state, are holding "Save Chick-fil-A Day." The group believes Texas businesses should not be discriminated against for their faith.

Members of Texas Values arrived with signs that said “Come and Take It. FreedomtobelieveTexas.com.”

Advocates asked people to show up at the State Capitol in support or visit their local Chick-fil-A restaurant. The Texas House State Affairs Committee is listening to public testimony about House Bill 1035 and House Bill 3172.

Both of the House bills being discussed would provide legislation to protect “freedom of conscience from government discrimination.”

San Antonio recently banned the restaurant from opening at the airport, saying the company is anti-LGBTQ+. The company says it is being discriminated against because of its Biblical stance on sex and marriage.

San Antonio City Council is set to revisit its stance on Chick-fil-A on Thursday.

“In Texas, you don’t mess with Chick-fil-A and you don’t mess with religious freedom. Local governments targeting and banning private Christian businesses like Chick-fil-A is hostility to religion that violates our Frist Amendment,” said Jonathan Saenz, president of Texas Values.
