BELL COUNTY, Texas — A grand jury has indicted a Central Texas man on capital murder charges for the deaths of two friends from Temple.

  • Another woman also charged in connection to their deaths

Cedric Marks was indicted on one count of capital murder of multiple persons in connection to the deaths of Jenna Scott and Michael Swearingen.

The two were last seen January 4 in a gray Hundai Genesis. The vehicle found a few days later in Austin.

The bodies of both Scott and Swearingin were found in a shallow grave in rural Oklahoma and were later identified on January 15.

Murder warrants were issued February 3 for Marks, who is Scott’s ex-boyfriend. Marks was arrested but while being transported, he escaped wearing leg, hand and belly restraints. He was found hiding inside a 55-gallon trash can in Conroe, about 40 miles north of Houston.

According to an affidavit, Maya Maxwell told Temple police she was at the Killeen home where Marks killed Scott and Swearingin on January 3. She told police Marks strangled Swearingin and then killed Scott.

Maxwell is charged with one count of capital murder of multiple persons and tamper/fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair. She is being help on a $500,000 bond.

Marks is currently being held in the Bell County Jail on a $1,766,500 bond.
