AUSTIN, Texas — As temperatures warm up, more people hit the trails in Austin.

  • More people are heading to Greenbelt
  • 2 people recently rescued near Spyglass Drive
  • 1 man fell off 40-foot cliff

That also means emergency crews respond to more calls to the Barton Creek Greenbelt.

This week, there have been two rescues at the Greenbelt. Thursday night, paramedics escorted someone with minor injuries out of the trail near the 2800 block of Spyglass Drive.

On Tuesday, Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) rescued someone from the same area with life-threatening injuries. ATCEMS said the intoxicated person had fallen off a 40-foot cliff.

GREENBELT SAFETY TIPS:

  • Bring plenty of water
  • Be mindful of fellow hikers and give enough space to bicyclists
  • Watch out for potentially dangerous animals and poisonous plants
  • Don’t jump closed gates — you could be fined if caught
