AUSTIN, Texas — It's been a while since a former Longhorn, who also grew up in Austin, has made an impact in the NBA.
- Allen is St. Stephen's grad
- Now plays with the Nets
- Played in All-Star Rising Stars game
But that is what Jarrett Allen is doing. The St. Stephen's Episcopal School grad, who played one season at Texas, was part of NBA All-Star Weekend. Jarrett played with Team USA in the Rising Stars game Friday night.
Allen, in his second season with the Brooklyn Nets, is averaging more than 11 points and 8 rebounds per game.
"Probably five years ago I wouldn't know the Rising Stars existed. I knew the NBA was around but not the Rising Stars. I wouldn't have thought I'd be in this position I am today,” said Allen.
The Rising Stars game matches the NBA's top rookies and second year players against each other. Team USA beat the World team 161-144 Friday night.
