AUSTIN, Texas — Preparations for renovations at Zilker Café began on Friday.

  • New facade to be added
  • Updating systems to meet code
  • To be finished this fall

The facility provides food and beverage services to Zilker Park visitors. The concession also has historic ties to the Austin community. Built in 1960, the facility is a contributing structure to the Zilker National Register Historic District.

The rehabilitation includes demolishing exterior and interior facades, except for the slab and masonry facade. The Historic Landmark Commission of the City of Austin has approved the restored facades and new roof configuration. Electrical, mechanical, and plumbing improvements include new service connections and new systems to meet current codes.

William Barton Drive is not expected to be closed during the construction.

The renovation is scheduled to be completed by this fall.
