AUSTIN, Texas -- Augusta National is regarded as probably the best golf course in America and possibly the world, and now three women golfers from UT will play on it
- 3 UT Longhorns to play in Augusta National Women’s Amateur
- Tournament is invite-only
- Winner will receive invitations to future tournaments
The home of The Masters has long been a very exclusive club, which is why their announcement of hosting a women’s amateur tournament for the first time was a big deal. The invite-only tournament will take place a week before the Masters, and three Longhorns received the special invitation: Kaitlyn Papp, Emilee Hoffman, and Agathe Laisne.
“I think we’re all super grateful to be the first women competing at Augusta,” Papp said. “I never thought I’d be able to say I’m competing at Augusta.”
“It’s incredibly prestigious and I hope it brings more attention to the women’s game,” said Hoffman.
Seventy-two women’s amateur golfers have been invited to the tournament. The first two rounds will be played at a separate golf club in Augusta and the top 30 will advance to the final round at Augusta National on April 6.
The winner will receive invitations to multiple future tournaments, including the 2019 U.S. Women’s Open and 2019 Women’s British Open.
