WILLIAMSON COUNTY — Community members gathered Thursday for a ceremony to show support for the family of Rachel Cooke.
- Missing for 17 years
- Would be 36 years old now
- Cold case unit investigating
There are still many unanswered questions after Rachel Cooke vanished while going out for a jog. The Georgetown woman was 19 years old when she vanished without a trace 17 years ago.
“She was a very, very loving soul. She would do anything for anyone if they asked if at all possible,” said Janet Cooke, Rachel Cooke’s mother.
When he took office in 2016, Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody immediately assembled a cold case unit. The unit has been in charge of some of the most notorious cases in the region, including Rachel Cooke’s.
“We’ve developed a relationship like no other. Anytime an event is occurring like the dig we had, she knew about it before anyone else did,” said Chody.
Investigators continue their efforts.
“I cross my fingers, say lots of prayers and hope that maybe this time will be the time,” said Janet Cooke.
