TEXAS - The National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory Tuesday morning for the Austin and San Antonio areas.

  • Dense fog advisory issues Tuesday morning
  • Visibility limited to a quarter of a mile in places
  • Numerous crashes reported in Central Texas 

The advisory was in effect until 9 a.m., and in some areas visibility was less than a quarter of a mile.

Several crashes were reported in the Austin area, and a six-vehicle wreck was reported along U.S. 183 in the southeast part of town. Multiple collisions were reported in the area of SH 45 and CR 172 in Williamson County.

Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody via the National Weather Service Tuesday morning shared the following tips for driving in heavy fog:

  • Drive with lights on
  • Slow down
  • Watch out for pedestrians/traffic
  • Reduce “in-car” distractions
  • Use wipers
  • Use the right edge of the road for guidance
  • Be patient
  • Signal your turns
  • Try not to stop in the road
