LIBERTY HILL, Texas — If you want to get a feel for the real meaning of small town Texas high school football, take a look at a program like Liberty Hill in mid-December when they're making a deep playoff run.

  • Liberty Hill Panthers headed to playoffs
  • Playing Carthage Friday
  • Last won championship in 2007

"It's like a college football town, we're all very devoted to the football team." fullback Connor Kuykendall said. " 90 percent of what I talk about at the dinner table is football because I love it so much."

"We've won a couple state titles and the expectations are to get back." said head coach Jeff Walker. "When you get this close you start to taste it."

A big reason Liberty Hill is 12-1 this season and still alive in the playoffs, is their strong senior class.

"We've been working together since the 6th grade, winning championships." senior Trent Seward said. "We just feel like this could be our year."

The Panthers have reached the state semifinals and this Friday they'll play Carthage. The Bulldogs have won back-to-back titles and have won 40 straight games.

"They have 7-8 division one kids and it shows. It's a big challenge but we're excited about it," said Walker.

A win Friday would put Liberty Hill in the state title game next week, going for their first championship since they won back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007.
