GIDDINGS, Texas — A community is mourning after the death of three Giddings men in a crash in Elgin.

Twenty-one-year-old Jesus Valdez, 21-year-old Alixis Hernandez, and 22-year-old Clemente Nava were traveling westbound on Highway 290 Tuesday when a semi struck their SUV.

“Yesterday I was in Azona, Texas, working, and I got a phone call that my best friend had died,” said David Diaz.

On Wednesday, Chelis, a restaurant in the men’s hometown, donated all of its sales to the victims’ families.
“We were just shocked and we were numb,” said volunteer Edith Montoya. “This is a very small community but anytime there is a tragedy we all come together.”
