AUSTIN, Texas – A recent study conducted by WalletHub evaluated the best and worst cities in the United States for veterans to live in, and Austin came out on top.

• Educational opportunities and a low veteran unemployment rate pushed Austin to the top
• The share of veterans living below the poverty level was the city’s biggest weakness


The study highlighted the top strengths of the city to be educational opportunities for veterans and a low veteran unemployment rate. Austin’s biggest weakness was the share of veterans living below the poverty level. To conduct the study, WalletHub compared the 100 most populated U.S. cities across four key dimensions:

• Employment
• Economy
• Quality of Life
• Health

Rounding out the top five cities in the country behind Austin were:

2. Scottsdale, Arizona
3. Colorado Springs, Colorado
4. Raleigh, North Carolina
5. Gilbert, Arizona

According to the Veterans Association, there are over 19.6 million veterans currently living in the U.S.
