AUSTIN, Texas — The mountain cedar trees that grow all throughout Central Texas will be a big nuisance to many people for the next few months.

  • 39 percent of trees in Austin are mountain cedar
  • Doctors recommend getting on medication
  • A/C filter should help clean indoor air

Cedar fever is a common complaint for people that suffer from allergies.

Data from the United States Forest Service shows that mountain cedars make up 39 percent of trees in Austin.

“Cedar pollen is so strong in causing allergies,” said allergy specialist Dr. Douglas Barstow.

He advises allergy sufferers to get started on medication as soon as possible to fight symptoms.

“The advice that we give to people is take a shower when you get home at night because it will wash the pollen out of your hair and so that you are not sleeping with it on your pillow,” Barstow said.

Your air conditioner’s filter can also help clean some of the indoor air.
