AUSTIN, Texas -- The 86th legislative session begins on January 8. While lawmakers will tackle hundreds of bills throughout the course of five months, one issue that keeps being touted as a top priority: fixing the way the state pays for public education.

"Probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to really do this right," said Education Committee Chairman Sen. Larry Taylor, R-Friendswood.
