Rockeymoore currently teaches at Del Valle High School and has a background on the San Marcos Ethics Review Commission, experience he feels is valuable in this race.

"Bringing transparency to city government, I'd like to see some campaign finance rules put in place. I'd like to see a lobbying ordinance put in place that has some teeth into it," Rockeymoore said.

Scott is a veteran with a five-year background in City Council, from 2010 to 2015. He also has a degree from Texas State.

"I am pro-student and so there has to be a mix. If it wasn't for students, including myself, this town wouldn't be here," Scott said.

Scott's number one priority is lowering the cost of living in San Marcos.

"All you have to do is lower the effective tax rate. I tried to do it for five years when I was on Council before, and now that the taxes are so high, I think people will listen," Scott said.

Scott also wants to create a balance between the community, business and the sensitive environment of San Marcos.

"So I'm very pro-small business for sure. So you just have to be really careful. It's a fine balance. I don't want to overpopulate anything but at the same time, I want to make sure it's sustainable," Scott said.

Rockeymoore's priorities are putting neighborhoods first, and making sure development is done responsibly.

"Growth corridors, growth hubs are places that cities need to seriously consider implementing in order to protect neighborhoods and make sure boundaries are succinct and stark," he said.

Rockeymoore also wants protections for the San Marcos River.

"Being in Central Texas and this being the environmental haven that it is, our river in the city of San Marcos and our Springs are of the utmost importance," Rockeymoore said.
