TEXAS – As neighborhoods are turning into a sea of twinkling holiday lights, Austin Energy has some tips to cut down energy costs while still enjoying the luminous displays.

  • LED lights recommended
  • Use 75 percent less energy
  • Incandescent lights worst lifespan

The public utility company said the best way to cut down on energy usage is to hang up LED lights. LED lights use 75 percent less energy than typical incandescent lights.

Another bonus, according to Austin Energy, is that LED lights last longer. Lights with a longer shelf life require less maintenance for homeowners over time, which means they can keep using it year after year.

The website Stouch Lighting claims that incandescent lights have one of the worst lifespans on the market.

Most grocery stores and pharmacies sell both types of the lights.
