AUSTIN, Texas  — With five days to go until Election Day, one of the big things candidates are trying to avoid is any major slip-ups that could cost them the election.

Katherine McLane is the founder and CEO of the Mach 1 Group — a public affairs and strategic communications firm which deals in crisis communications.

“When you get to this stage of a campaign, it almost breaks your heart to see a candidate stumble,” McLane said. “There are a few marvelously Texas rules about the final lap of the campaign. The first one is ‘Dance with the one that brung ya.’ Don’t change your message late in the campaign.”
