AUSTIN, Texas – A working fire alarm helped a South Austin resident get to safety after an early morning house on Thursday.

Austin Fire crews arrived three minutes after receiving the call just before 2 a.m. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire on Dupoint Cove.

After the fire, firefighters were deconned once they exited the house. The deconning process is part of a new program designed to minimize firefighters’ exposure to carcinogens from structure fires.

A carcinogen is a substance that can cause cancer.

No one was injured in the fire.
