AUSTIN, Texas – With three large events taking over downtown Austin this weekend, drivers might want to take a look at the areas that will be impacted the most.

With Wizard World Austin, the Pecan Street Festival and Fantastic Fest all scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 21, traffic congestion is expected to be impacted.

Wizard World

The traveling convention, Wizard World, kicks off at the Austin Convention Center with some big names in science fiction. The event will feature celebrity guests from "Doctor Who" including David Tennant, Peter Capaldi, Pearl Mackie and Alex Kingston. Other big names include Jon Heder and Danny Trejo.

The event is located at 500 East Cesar Chaves St. from Sept. 21 until Sept. 23.

  • Saturday, Sept. 22 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 23 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Pecan Street Festival

Twice a year hundreds of people flock to Austin’s 6th Street Historic District for the Pecan Street Festival featuring artists from across the country.

The handcrafted creations are sold during the festival with a variety of mediums from wood, to leather, fiber and glass. Additionally, nearly 50 musical acts will perform on three stages located on Trinity, Neches, and Red River.

The event will shut down 6th Street between Brazos Street and Interstate 35.

Fantastic Fest

One of the country’s largest genre film festivals kicks off in Austin the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar.

Major movies will premiere at the festival with special appearances by Jamie Lee Curtis and Jonah Hill.

From Sept. 20 through Sept. 27, screenings will include numerous genres from horror, to fantasy and sci-fi.
