CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte Mecklenburg police say between Sunday and Tuesday evening they responded to seven armed robberies.

  • All but one of the robberies involved a gun and a group of anywhere between two to four suspects
  • Officers said the victims were either standing outside using a phone or were drinking and had cash in their pockets
  • Officers often hear people say they are afraid to call, expecting the police will ask for their papers

According to authorities, all happened at the Greenbryre apartment complex and the Teal Point apartments next door.

All but one of the robberies involved a gun and a group of anywhere between two to four suspects robbing Latino or Hispanic males.

Officers said the victims were either standing outside using a phone or were drinking and had cash in their pockets.

However, CMPD believes there could be more victims out there.

They often hear people say they are afraid to call, expecting the police will ask for their papers.

Officers said they are only concerned with a victim's identification, not any immigration papers.

"I've always said it ain't about politics, it's about people. We care about people. I don't care where you're from or what your status is, I care that you're not victimized while you're here in our city," said Chief Kerr Putney.
