AUSTIN, Texas -- Some Austin kids are hitting Lady Bird Lake and learning a new skill at the same time.

The Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas is hosting its Kayak Camp this week, which is a yearly camp that helps kids with disabilities have a great summer.

About 15 campers are learning everything from water safety to boat steering.

"We try to give our campers as similar experiences to a child that doesn't have a disability as we can, and so this is great because it gives them that camp experience that every kid kind of wants,” said Asha Thomas, with the Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas.

The Down Syndrome Association is a non-profit that servces Central Texas families throughout the year.
