AUSTIN, Texas – Williamson County deputies are investigating after a 5-month-old died at a northwest Austin day care Thursday morning.

According to Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody, the infant was reported unresponsive around 9:30 a.m. The first deputy on the scene applied CPR on the baby before Jollyville Fire Department took over. They continued to try and revive the baby for an hour, but to no avail. The baby was pronounced deceased at 10:15 a.m.

The baby was at an in-home day care, at 7906 block of Truman Cove, which is listed as Sonia's Happy Tots on Angie's List. Investigators are treating this as a criminal investigation and will work to determine the infant's cause of death.

The child's family has been notified, but the sheriff's office will not be releasing the name or gender of the baby.

Under Texas law, a day care must notify the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services immediately when a child dies in their care.
