AUSTIN, Texas — When it comes to landing a job, Texas is the place to be.
Falling behind just one major city, Dallas, is Austin, according to Forbes magazine. Though it’s not the tech industry supplementing the growth, Forbes says.
- Dallas, Austin, San Antonio rank in the top 15
“Second-ranked Austin, Texas, is certainly a booming tech hub, but its rapid job growth — 3.4% last year and 39% since 2006 — is more diversified than commonly believed. In fact, the big driver in terms of high-wage jobs is not tech but professional and business services, an area in which employment has grown 37.1% since 2006.”
Last year, Austin had the strongest population increase and rate of domestic in-migration of any in the country with a population over a million. This has translated into jobs in the retail, construction, financial services and trade and other industries impacted by the population boom.
Besides Dallas and Austin, the San Antonio metro area also ranked in the top 15 — at No. 13.
The ranking is based on U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics unadjusted employment data reported from November 2006 to January 2018. Here’s the full methodology.
