FAYETTE COUNTY – A driver is in custody after leading police on a chase in Fayette County on Monday.

Around 7:29 a.m., a Department of Public Safety trooper was trying to stop a driver on Highway 71. The driver refused to stop, igniting a police chase while the trooper called for back-up.

The troopers put a plan in motion to have one of them set up ahead of where the driver was traveling to wait for him. Placing spike strips across the road, the driver was finally forced to stop.

The driver, 41-year-old Fermin Stander Chacon-Neyra, was arrested and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center. He has been charged with evading arrested and reckless driving.

A passenger inside the car was released.
